APRIL 28th, 2013 (Marblehead, MA)

The 15th Annual Jackson Cup took place April 27th & 28th in Marblehead
Harbor off the Boston Yacht Club. The Jackson Cup, named in honor of
the late Past Commodore of the Boston Yacht Club (Marblehead, MA), Dr.
Robert F. Jackson,(1993-'94), is a national annual invitational team
race challenge by the Boston Yacht Club to other clubs and
organizations in the country. The teams selected for the challenge are
chosen for having demonstrated high racing skill and the Corinthian
spirit. The event was inaugurated in 1999 and is held in April each
year. It is sailed in Sonar class boats in Marblehead Harbor.

Seven teams of three boats raced for two days in two round robins
followed by a medal round on Sunday. This year teams represent four
States: The Boston Yacht Club (MA), Eastern Yacht Club (MA), Larchmont
Yacht Club (NY), New York Yacht Club (NY), Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht
Club (NY), St. Francis Yacht Club (CA), and the Southern Yacht Club
(LA).

The last minute, of the last race determined the winner of the Jackson
Cup on Sunday.  Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club vs two year champions
New York Yacht Club came down to strategic sailing on the last few
legs of the fifth final race which was a first to three points.   Was
it the trap? Did they use the moored lobster boat as a pick?  Was it
the fake and cover?  What is that the skipper of one of the NYYC boats
had been swimming in an earlier race? We could not tell from the RC
boat (We won’t tell who!) – but great racing, and a lot of
vocalization with SCYC coming out on top.  Two days of racing, 7-10
knots each day, shifts from South to East wind, Seven teams and very
happy racers. A great Jackson Cup.

2nd – New York Yacht Club, New York, NY

3rd – Larchmont Yacht Club, Larchmont, NY

4th – Boston Yacht Club, Marblehead, MA

5th – St Francis Yacht Club, San Fransisco, CA

6th – Eastern Yacht Club, Marblehead, MA

7th – Southern Yacht Club, New Orleans, LA

Mission Accomplished!

  Yesterday I arrived in Dar Salaam, Tanzania and last night the car rental agency picked up the Land Cruiser. I’m not going to lie, it was a great relief when they picked it up. I didn’t post all the issues I had with the Land Cruiser, but they included replacing the clutch twice, replacing both batteries, thr spare tire rim and various issues with the electrical system, stove, bulbs, door latches, windows and tire leaks.  Although I spent a lot of time working on repairs of the Land Cruiser, I couldn’t imagine doing the trip in any other vehicle because of the very poor roads in Kenya and Tanzania. The Land Cruiser was an absolute beast, everybody knows how to fix them and parts are readily available. In 28 days, I drove 9,924 km, visited 7 churches, 5 wells, 3 schools, 2 orphanages, 1 clinic and gave out 200 storybook bibles. (Although, 13 of the storybook bibles were given to 8 Tanzanian Police Officers instead of the cash they requested.) I also shared a message at 3 churches.  To

54 Cities in 300 Days!

Yesterday was our last outreach to help the homeless. Over the last 300 days and over 28,000 miles, Mission For Hope & Christian Jeep Association has given out thousands of blankets, hygiene kits and Bibles along with lots of clothing, food, water and prayers in cities across the United States & Canada.  THANK YOU to all the people who encouraged, supported and prayed for me the last 300 days. Thank you Beantown Blankets for donating thousands of blankets and shipping them into all the cities.  Next… Tuesday I fly to Kenya for month to help the children in Kenya and Tanzania get better access to clean water, healthcare and education.  Three days after I get back from Africa I leave on a 5 month trip in my Jeep to 10 states to attend 18 Jeep events that the Christian Jeep Association will be attending.  Thank you for your encouragement, support and prayers for my next two trips!  Acts 1:8 ‭

My route so far in Africa

This if my route so far in Kenya and Tanzania. Right now I’m in the southwest part of Tanzania where the gold arrow is. I’m heading east to Dar Saalem this week.  My Garmin stopped working a few days after I arrived in Kenya a few weeks ago. I’m using Gaia and it’s not my favorite for tracking and definitely not very useful in Kenya and Tanzania for finding places to camp.
